Practical Eye care tips for work from home

Yes! you’ve guessed it right, your eyes! Due to continuous staring at screens from the start to the end of the day, the human eye is constantly under strain. Eyes naturally blink as a reflex, which moistens them and keeps out the bright light. This has been significantly reduced as focusing on a specific visual task lowers the blinking rate from 15–20 times per minute to just 4–5 times. Basically, we might just drive ourselves straight into a zombie apocalypse.

Throughout the day our eyes process and perceive tonnes of information so relaxing them is crucial.

Use Anti-glare glasses. They have an anti-reflective coating that blocks the reflections from bouncing off of the lenses.

The blue light generated from digital devices penetrates the retina and can harm the light-sensitive cells in the eyes therefore it is advised to use Blue Block or Blue Shield Lenses with zero power or power.

Avoid a poorly lit space and have layered lighting.

General lighting/ ceiling lighting is the first layer of home lighting which also includes natural lighting so If possible try sitting near a window. The second layer is called Task lighting. This is at the desk level, basically, a study lamp which will provide the extra light for finding and focusing on small things without straining, next is the accent lighting that is between the ceiling and the desk (You can be a bit lenient with the Accent lighting but thoroughly consider the first two).

The best tip is to just take frequent small breaks during a long day and close your eyes for a few minutes. Cutting out any light stimulating the optic nerve. It helps in completely relaxing your eyes as well as your entire body. This is also known as quiet wakefulness.

Take some fresh, clean, cold water in your palms or use an eyecup and blink into it. You can add a few drops of rose water if you want (Consider making this a part of your alternate night routine).

Blink your eyes frequently.

Here is a short video to refresh and relax those eye muscles.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, believe me, you are not missing out on any important information and relax. Have a great weekend you guys, possibly with fewer screens and more rejuvenation.
