Hope this article finds you doing well. I did some research on trains in Brazil. Since it is a very large Latin American country about 86.6% as large as the United States, I wanted to see how they move people around the country. Brazil has 212.56 million people so they have to make their way to jobs, the grocery store, the doctor's office, etc.,

What I found out may surprise you unless you have been there and experienced the commute. I also covered the trains they use and the purpose for which they are used. It is my desire that you too will be able to learn something new from reading this article. Please let me know what your thoughts are after reading it. Thanks!

In the 19th century, Brazil began using rail transport with many different railway companies. The railways were nationalized under Rede Ferroviária Federal, Sociedade Anônima (RFFSA) in 1957. RFFSA has since broken up and now the train services are provided by private companies.

Brazil operates most railways for freight transportation or urban passenger transportation. There are two inner-city passenger railways. The Carajas Railway (connects Para and Maranhao) and the Vitoria to Minas Railway (connects Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais).

There are three rail gauges used in Brazil:

There are 246 miles of Dual Gauge (3 ft 3+3/8 in) and (5 ft 3 in) gauges.

The total of all tracks is 18,208 miles with 940 miles electrified.

A heritage railway at Estrada de Ferro Oeste de Minas has a 2 ft 6 in gauge track.
