Fly

It can be hard for one to fit in with other members of today’s society. In fact, people have been influenced so much by popular culture that a majority of citizens believe that certain materialistic things are needed in order to be seen as cool, successful, or to fit in. Such things consist of expensive jewelry, nice cars, and the ability to flaunt money around. However, these things are valued by society mostly because of daily advertisements produced by big name companies in an attempt to influence citizens to purchase their products. By using well known and admired celebrities, these companies slowly convince individuals to strive to live their lives in ways different than they would naturally strive to. In Hip Hop artist Marcus Hopsin’s song, Fly, he explains how the world is running this way. Hopsin provides examples of various popular culture beliefs and how those beliefs were planted into society’s heads by top tier corporations. He also uses the music video to explain how these companies are attempting to control the lives of the lower class citizens by providing the audience with visuals of CEO’s and business men literally using a controller to control different people in society. Although such visuals may seem absurd, with the influence that social media and advertisements have on our culture we might as well be controlled by those creating it all.
