My Two Noots About Regions in Star Atlas

A Tale about a Penguin with a wild imagination

The beautiful sunrise in NOOTOPIA

My Dear Readers,

Today this noot of yours will try his penguin flapping wings into a new proposition for the Star Atlas game!

Yeah! I was there nooting on the interview yesterday for the club when suddenly it came to me! AN EPIC NOOTING VISION ABOUT THE REGIONS IN STAR ATLAS!

So I came here today full of energy and trying to put into words my suggestion about how the regional daos in Star Atlas could be introduced in a fun and “gamified” way!

Hopefully, at least one of the ideas listed below is worthy enough to spark the star atlas devs big brains with crazy and cool possibilities!

I hope you guys enjoy it!

1 Introducing the regions in the star atlas metaverse

My first proposition is that at the beginning of the star atlas metaverse there would be no regions in a political sense.

The core of the idea is to give the players the ability to create the regions, fusion the regions, and separate regions into two or more new regions should some conditions be met.

So yeah, there we will be, at the dawn of star atlas, with nooting but our NFTS, and we will need to start some kind of political order.

Any player that has a piece of land on one of the stellar systems in the game would be able to trigger a found region event for the stellar system.

For that event to succeed, effectively creating the region, the landowners of the said stellar system would need to pool a minimum number of Polis. The necessary number of Polis for the success of this event would be calculated based on the number of land parcels in the said stellar system, as a way to grasp how much political influence you would need to rule a system of that size in the real world.

Those Polis would also be the initial treasure of the region.

Now things start to get interesting.

2. Borders and influence

So, after the pioneers of our metaverse start to create hundreds, if not thousands of regions, here comes the fun part, the geopolitics of our metaverse.

At this point, I would like to introduce a new mechanic in the game called influence.

As the name entails, influence would be an in-game attribute of the regions of Star Atlas, which determines the political borders of a region and the assets (planets, asteroids, space stations, etc) that are under their control.

How would it work? We would calculate the reach of the influence of a said region using some variables, like:

a) the total amount of staked POLIS in the region pool;

b) the player population established in the region.

c) the level of development of political and economical infrastructures in the region.

This way, as the influence of the region, grows, so would their borders, and this mechanic would allow the region to incorporate new assets under its control over time.

Also, something cool would eventually happen, you nooty noots should already know what I’m thinking about…

Different regions’ influences will clash, creating political borders between regions.

This would be the only limitation, aside from the variables above mentioned, to the expansion of a region’s influence. This would also trigger cool possibilities that I will start describing now.

3. War, fusion, and secession of Regions

NOW THE NOOT GET’S REAL FOLKS

So yeah, as soon as your region touches your neighbors we will start to have some... animosity.

So, we will need some cool tools to play this out.

My idea is to create lots of cool mechanics that players could vote upon inside the region DAO to create borders iterations between the regions.

The first one would be the fusion. Should players from both regions be scared little noots and don’t want to fight each other they would have the possibility to join together through voting on both Daos.

This way a new region would be born, their Polis pool would be integrated, and they would be a unique new region.

Next, there is WAR!

The Region with the highest influence attribute could trigger a conquer motion, which would require voting inside the dao and maybe some other monetary incentives, and start a region assimilation DAO.

The idea is that they would have a set period to dominate the capital or most of the area of the other region. Should they succeed, the other region is integrated into the conqueror’s region, the pools would be integrated and some of the polis of the losing region would be distributed to the winners.

Should they fail, the war deposit is automatically sent to the defendant region treasury.

Fun right?

Finally, I envisioned a secession vote, should a stellar system wish to leave a region. This would work just like the war mechanic with a few adjustments regarding the voters of the stellar system.

3 Closing thoughts

My idea for this event is to bring another layer of fun and complexity to Star Atlas while introducing the region dao module in a fun way.

Also, ideally, we would have hundreds, if not, thousands of regions in Star Atlas. This would empower the common player that can’t buy thousands or millions of Polis, allowing him to have a relevant voice in his region.

The more decentralization the better in my humble opinion.

Those are just initial ideas that I wanted to share with you guys as soon as possible, of course, it still needs much thought and polishing, but maybe it can spark someone smarter than me, like the Star Atlas team devs, into building cool stuff for us!

This is also an invitation for your guys. We are all passionate members of Star Atlas, so let’s help them build it! Get to discord and start discussing what you would like to see in the game!

Once more, thank you for keeping up with this chaotic noot. I feel very happy to be able to engage with you guys every day!

Oh, today we are having a discord voice chat with Santi in the Star Atlas discord! I would be delighted to have your company there!

See you guys later and don’t forget your water!
