Must Read Book For Designers

Books are a great source of Information. No matter in which field you are in books provide you with some unique information. As a Beginner in UX Design I recently started to read the book “ Design of Everyday Things” by Don Norman. The book was a new whole different level. When I start the UX Course on Coursera I feel like most of the part it was focused on apps, designs and moreover everything that is related to tech.

But this book as the name itself implies deals with everyday stuff. The writers point of view is completely different. He wants everything to be accessible, He wants the users to easily know how it works and most importantly the design itself must give some clues. Users must be able to combine these clues to make the product work. Just combining the clue and making the product work, nothing more than that. In the book the thinking of the author really amazed me , he thought about almost everything about him. The day to day products he used including refrigerators, chairs and even doors.

The concept of system images excited me the most in this book. Most of the time when we use a new product for example, when we first use this medium, it might be a bit confusing about where to find stories, drafts and new stories but soon we will be ale to form a system image out of it. System image is nothing but an overview for us about how to use an certain application. Its because when we hover on a particular icon its specifies the name we will redirected to, the correct use of signifiers. Without all these we may not able to have a correct system image. Every time we might need to click on a icon, wait till it loads, figure out what the page is and then going back if its not the one we are looking for.

Not only the above things I mentioned there are a lot more in this book which are really exciting. If you are a UX Beginner then you must read this book as It has a lot of useful stuff.
