“How can I help you?”, the waitress asked me when I walked in.

I’m seated, waiting for my food. Two men walk in.

“How are yous? Looking for a bite?”

They sit down and order their food straight away.

”Was everything ok for you?”

It was, and the waitress cleared my plate.

”Can I get yous anything else?”

One of the men asks for tomato sauce.

Different stokes for different folk. “Yous” is a common pronoun in Australia. But it’s rare to hear it applied selectively.

But childhood memories bring me back here, much as they bring people back to the cars they desired as kids, even though the world has moved on, and quality is quantitavely better.
